"November 2022 forever changed the world with the launch of ChatGPT. The global community was captivated by the potential of Generative AI. While Large Language Models (LLMs) like BERT and GPT-2 existed before ChatGPT, it was this advanced chatbot that truly showcased the power of Generative AI. As social media buzzed with new discoveries of Gen AI’s potential, companies worldwide began to view it as the next catalyst for their business.
Unsurprisingly, cybersecurity vendors were also fascinated by what LLMs could achieve. Early experiments were very promising: Gen AI could summarize alerts to separate signal from noise and serve as an invaluable co-pilot in helping security analysts reverse-engineer malware and interpret alerts. Even now, many challenges in cybersecurity can be more effectively addressed with Gen AI.
However, as with any major trend, the hype quickly escalated. Almost all vendors shifted their focus to Gen AI, creating a perfect 'squirrel' moment for the cybersecurity industry. The cybersecurity field is constantly challenged by adversaries; to keep pace, we must innovate, or we risk failing. Furthermore, many fundamental problems in cybersecurity remain unsolved. The rush towards Gen AI further diverted resources from addressing real security challenges.
At WideField Security, we believe identity security is a fundamental challenge in cybersecurity. Despite significant technical advances in this area, deploying advanced technology within an organization can be complex. WideField Security was established to address these fundamental challenges in identity security. We are developing solutions to help organizations reduce blind spots and detect attacks more effectively. While we are just beginning, we have already demonstrated our ability to help organizations cover their basics, allowing them to focus on their business priorities."
